Switching to Platform Analytics - technical movements and owner issue
September 3, 2024
Recently for a customer we migrated for a customer to Platform Analytics. Shortly after doing so, we noticed all reports had lost their owners resulting in nobody, except for admins, were able to update their reports.
I decided to do some research in order to solve this issue and to understand what this migration is about. On a side note: after the migration the menu reports view/run was no longer available. Which coming to think of it makes sense, because reports were no longer used, since everything was moved to platform analytics.
This basically means that every report was moved from the “sys_report” table to the “par_visualization” table. Luckily the reports were preserved in the “sys_report” and not removed during the migration.
Regarding the ownership issue I would like to mention the following. For setting th owner and shared permission the table “par_visualization_permission” is created. In this table ServiceNow stores multiple records for all data visualizations (new name for reports in Platform Analytics) to set the owner and sharing permissions.
Unfortunately, during the migration the owner field in our case remained empty (probably in all similar cases). If this happens to you, you now know where to look for the original owner, share permissions and where to create records to restore the owners and share permissions for Platform Analytics. If you want to do this for all reports, of course you need to create a fix script. Feel free to contact me if you need help with creating this fix script.
